Delta Gamma was founded in 1873 based on the motto "Do Good." Since then, what began as an Anchor Club in Oxford, Mississippi has grown into a women's fraternity that boasts 147 collegiate chapters around the country. The Delta Iota chapter of Delta Gamma was chartered at the University of Georgia in 1968. Delta Iota emphasizes sisterhood, service, involvement, and individuality among her members, and our women are bound together by a mutual sense of helpfulness.
At UGA, members of Delta Gamma participate in organizations across campus. Academically, DG is proud to have sisters in the Honors Program, Order of Omega, and the Dean William Tate Honor Society, among others. Athletically, Delta Gamma is represented on the UGA Varsity Cheerleading and Equestrian teams, as well as on the Club Crew and Softball teams. Sisters also enjoy playing on intramural and philanthropy teams, and DG placed first in Derby Days and second in Spike for Life, a popular volleyball tournament, this year.
Leadership development is also very important to Delta Gamma. Delta Iota provides plenty of opportunities for members to assume leadership roles, and the lessons learned in the chapter translate to continued involvement outside of the house. Sisters currently serve on the executive boards of Relay For Life, Dawg Camp, University Judiciary, and numerous other organizations. Members also participate in the Georgia Recruitment Team, Student Government Association, Habitat for Humanity, and organizations that cater to all interests, most especially philanthropic causes.
Philanthropy is a crucial part of sorority life, and Delta Gamma prides itself on the spirit of volunteerism. More specifically, our members raise money for the Delta Gamma Foundation, which aids the blind and visually impaired through a program known as Service for Sight. Delta Iota hosts an annual Low Country Boil dinner on the lawn and a benefit concert called Anchor Jam. This past year, Anchor Jam featured country star Josh Gracin. Sisters also support countless other philanthropies, most notably UGA Miracle, UGA HEROs, and Relay For Life.
The sisters of the Delta Iota chapter of Delta Gamma welcome you to the University of Georgia, and we look forward to sharing more about our sisterhood with you soon. Best of luck during recruitment!
